Deploying the Vismo App in Microsoft Teams

Purpose

This guide explains how your Microsoft Teams administrator can make the Vismo app available across your organisation, install it for users and pin it to the Teams app bar.

Microsoft provides app management and setup controls in the Teams Admin Centre. Depending on your tenant configuration, app installation may be managed through app-centric management rather than setup policies. Manage apps and setup policy guidance.

Before you begin

Before you deploy Vismo, please confirm that:
•    You can access the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre.
•    Your account has the Teams Administrator role or higher.
•    The Vismo app is published to your Microsoft 365 tenant.
•    The intended users are licensed for Microsoft Teams.

1.    Sign in to the Teams Admin Centre

•    Open a web browser.
•    Go to the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com
•    Sign in with an account that has Teams Administrator permissions.

2.    Confirm that Vismo is available

•    From the left-hand menu, select Teams apps.
•    Select Manage apps.
•    Search for Vismo.
•    Confirm that Vismo appears in the results.

What you should see

Vismo is listed and available for you to manage within your tenant. For further information, see Microsoft’s Manage apps guidance.

3.    Allow access to Vismo

•    Open the Vismo app record.
•    Review its availability status.

If Vismo is blocked, change its status to Allowed or make it available to the required users and groups.

•    Save your changes.

What this means

Users can access Vismo in line with your organisation’s app availability and setup settings. See Microsoft’s app management guidance.

4.    Choose how Vismo will be deployed

•    Go to Teams apps and review the app management options available in your tenant.
•    If your tenant uses setup policies, open Setup policies and select the policy you want to update.

If your tenant uses app-centric management, open the Vismo app record and assign installation to the required users, groups or everyone.

Recommended organisation-wide option

For setup policies, use Global (Org-wide default) when Vismo should be available to all users who do not have a custom policy. Custom policies override the global policy. See Microsoft’s setup policy guidance.

5.    Install Vismo for users

•    If you are using app-centric management, open the Vismo app record and select the option to install the app for your chosen users, groups or everyone.
•    If you are using setup policies, open the relevant policy and locate Installed apps.
•    Select Add apps, search for Vismo and add it.
•    Save the configuration.

Outcome

Vismo is installed automatically for the users covered by your chosen deployment method. Microsoft notes that app-centric management may replace new setup-policy installations in migrated tenants. See Microsoft’s installation guidance.

6.    Pin Vismo to the Teams app bar

•    In the relevant setup policy, locate Pinned apps.
•    Select Add apps.
•    Search for Vismo and add it.
•    Move Vismo to your preferred position in the app bar.
•    Save the policy.

Pinning Vismo makes it easier for users to find and open the app from the Teams sidebar. You can adjust the order to suit your organisation. See Microsoft’s pinning guidance.

7.    Save and allow the changes to apply

•    Review the configuration.
•    Select Save.
•    Allow time for the changes to reach users across Microsoft 365.

Outcome

Once the changes have applied, users covered by the policy or app assignment will have Vismo installed and, where configured, pinned in Teams. Microsoft advises that policy changes can take time to take effect. See setup policy guidance.

Validate the deployment

After deployment, we recommend confirming the following:

Administrator checks

•    Vismo appears in Manage apps.
•    Vismo is allowed or assigned to the required users and groups.
•    Vismo is configured for automatic installation.
•    Vismo is included in Pinned apps, if required.
•    All changes have been saved.

User checks

•    The user can see Vismo in Teams.
•    The user can open the app.
•    Where applicable, the user can access Vismo on a mobile device.

Troubleshooting

Vismo does not appear in the app list

Cause

Vismo may not yet be published to your tenant, or your organisation’s app controls may be restricting access.

Resolution

1.    Confirm that Vismo has been published to your tenant.
2.    Review the app’s availability for users and groups.
3.    If you are using a custom app package, confirm that the correct version has been uploaded. See Microsoft’s app management guidance.

Vismo is blocked or unavailable

Cause

The app is blocked or has not been made available to the required users or groups.

Resolution

1.    Go to Teams apps → Manage apps.
2.    Open Vismo.
3.    Allow the app or assign it to the required users and groups.
4.    Save the changes. See Microsoft’s app management guidance.

Users cannot see Vismo

Cause

•    The deployment changes may still be applying.
•    The user may have a custom setup policy that overrides the global policy.
•    Vismo may not be assigned to the user or their group.

Resolution

1.    Check the user’s assigned setup policy.
2.    Confirm that Vismo is available and installed for the user or their group.
3.    Ask the user to sign out of Teams and sign in again.
4.    Restart Teams. See Microsoft’s setup policy guidance.

Vismo is installed but not pinned

Cause

Vismo has been installed for the user but has not been added to the pinned apps list.

Resolution

1.    Open the setup policy assigned to the user.
2.    Confirm that Vismo appears under Pinned apps.
3.    Add or reposition Vismo, then save the policy. See Microsoft’s pinning guidance.

Changes are not reaching users

Cause

A custom policy may be overriding the global policy, the app assignment may not include the user, or the changes may still be applying.

Resolution

1.    Confirm which setup policy is assigned to the user.
2.    Check that the user or their group is included in the Vismo app assignment.
3.    Correct the policy or assignment if needed.
4.    Allow additional time for the changes to apply. See Microsoft’s setup policy guidance.

You cannot change the configuration

Cause

Your account may not have the required administrative permissions.

Resolution

Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to assign the appropriate Teams administrative role before you manage apps or policies. See Microsoft’s role and app management guidance.
